Sims are belligerent and I hate them all and I'M GOING HOME TO GO TO BED

But really this has been fun or at least something. Thanks to EVERYONE for your donations, to Finlay and Elyse and Eve and Naomi and everyone for 24 hours of quality radio and I'M GOING HOME TO GO TO BED NOW

About an hour ago my laptop ran out of power and turned itself off and I lost a fair bit of progress LOL

In seventeen minutes I'll have been awake for twenty four hours. It's a bit like being drunk; we're now at the stage where we're giggling at everything with no relation to how funny it is. We have injokes. Apparently the studio smells really bad. I have an unending resentment towards all of my sims for being difficult. The inside of my mouth has gone numb.

I don't think I've ever wanted my bed more, and I'm including the day where I took three separate flights and crossed eight timezones,

The Pleasance has closed for the night, there's a jazz band setting up in the studio, and the game just decided to give me about seventy thousand extra people.

ONLY SEVEN HOURS TO GO / OH GOD STILL SEVEN HOURS TO GO delete as appropriate

I JUST WENT OUTSIDE AND THERE WAS SO MUCH SPACE. Then I got a bit scared by all the space and came back to the studio.

So it's sorta coming along and I reckon I can hit 300k before the end but the cities look like guff and my teachers keep striking and one city is using about 185463x more water than it should be (another bug in the game?) and I think my dreams of creating a Judge Dredd-style Mega City across the centre of Scotland are totally dead BUT we've got eight hours to go and I am going to keep going TO THE END. Love, your author.

The outside world is but a distant memory.

On the plus side, my population has increased by two thirds in the last four hours.

Oh, here we are. I've not updated for a few hours, because I've been SIMCITYING really hard. What's happened? The game is a little obstinate, and cities are proving tricky to grow. Tim FitzHigham spent about four hours ridiculing me and my God complex and got the team to play The Breeders to try and inspire my little Sims to reproduce more. I spent about fifteen minutes just laughing hysterically at basically nothing at all.

BUT LOOK, I discovered a gallery facility! Above you have the now-standard regional shot, along with a SECOND regional shot showing the transportation (I initially wrote 'transportational' here, but apparently THAT ISN'T A WORD) networks - look, I now have two seaports and an airport!!!!!! - and a third showing a lighthouse I put on an island. I think that's cool.

I should take a moment to thank absolutely everyone who's donated money or said something nice or supportive to me in this totally insane endeavor I've undertaken. I appreciate it all.

We could still use more donations though, so PLEASE DO THAT :)

Ooooh, Weebly has a gallery function!

And I built a seaside town!

We're only four hours in and I think the enormity of this task has just sunk in. #pray4mojo

Civilisation has spread to the west! And also some farmland. I had a bit of a disaster in the west, there's a weird bug in the game where if you lose water supply, some buildings will be abandoned and won't ever become inhabited again. Farewell, lovely row of terraces! I hope you are redeveloped as something nice.

Now, the question is where to plant my next town...

So my rough plan to start with is to dot the region with multiple small towns - the game seems to work best when you have settlements that can interact with each other. So I've started on the east side of the Central Belt, and now I'm moving to the west side.

As another update, I've just eaten a pain au chocolate for my breakfast, and the studio is currently being subjected to some horrible power ballads (but also some New Order). Hooray!

I should also point out that you can LISTEN to the 24hr show right here - I'll be on from time to time, and Finn and Elyse are champs for doing this.

Oh yeah, and PLEASE DONATE SOME MONEY RIGHT HERE :)

Complete lack of updates, thank you not having any internet at home.

So the big day is here! First things first, I couldn't get the map of Edinburgh to work, but I have found a WONDERFUL backup. Observe, central Scotland in all it's glory;
So instead of building Edinburgh, I'll be building some coast-to-coast megacity monstrosity. Excellent!

    About

Common wisdom dictates Rome wasn't built in a day. But... what if Edinburgh was? <crowd gasps>

As part of the Fresh Fringe 24hr radio show challenge, I'll be attempting to built a Sim City 4 region with the population of Edinburgh during the world-famous Fringe Festival. This undeniably heroic city-building feat will commence at 10am on August 16th 2013, and wrap up twenty four very long hours later.

This blog is intended to track both my progress and, presumably, my declining mental state.

    DONATE MONEY HERE

This is the main Fresh Fringe 24hr Show JustGiving page. If you're donating money because of this, just leave a comment or something. I'll need the ego boosts to get through this.

All money raised for the 24hr Show will be donated to Waverley Care, an Edinburgh-based charity that provides care and support to people living with HIV and Hepatitis C all over Scotland.
